A FEAST OF CULTURES
Well, can you believe, this is my first ever attempt at blogging. Ah, yes, it’s just another thing to tick off the “bucket list” in life’s journey! But I digress.
As a frustrated actress and singer, President of Coolum Theatre Players, Alto singer with Cool Harmonies choir and quasi-retired events manager, I was chuffed to be asked to be a blogger for this new website, to keep you updated on the arts and entertainment events happening in and surrounding Coolum.
And the best part about these first two events is that I’m involved with both!
C’MON AUSSIE SOCCEROOS
Thirty two nations will be competing in the 2010 Fifa World Cup. But it’s not only South Africa that’ll be hosting celebrations.
On Friday 25thJune, here in neighbouring Peregian Springs, Chez Andre will transform his café/restaurant into a stadium of gourmet proportions. Combine the colourful décor with an authentic, traditional South African menu of fare together with Coolum’s community choir Cool Harmonies performing their repertoire of emotive and powerful South African songs (including the Soccer World Cup South African anthem “Shosholoza”); and you’ve got an evening of world cup fever!
The chef is still sourcing the menu, but for $35 per person for dinner, entertainment and atmosphere, the night'll be a winner!

INTERNATIONAL LIVE THEATRE
From the sports oval to the theatre stage, and there is nothing quite like theatrical comedians – Italian ones at that! How wonderful then that the Commedia dell ‘Arte performers from Verona, Italy will be visiting the Sunshine Coast as part of their Australian Theatre Tournee 2010.
For one magical night only you can see them at the Hyatt Regency Coolum on Saturday 24thJuly, performing in English, “Isabella Comica Gelosa – the Harlequin’s Secret”. This performance is a tribute to the Art comedians: with its new original plot, in which actors have fun with, improvising and enriching it with jokes, somersaults, duels, magical acts and songs.
There’ll be canapés and beverages from 7.30pm with pre show entertainment by one of the Coast’s leading male vocalists, Dale Pengelly and Sunshine Coast Academy of Dance Arts.
