Ah yes, I remember as a kid going to many a live performance of memorable fairytale pantomimes where we’d dress in our finest party gear and sit with goodie bag in lap in what seemed to be a very big theatre packed to the rafters with exuberant kiddies who’d already had their fill of raspberry cordial! We’d scream at the top of our voices to warn of the approaching baddies to whom we’d boooooo even louder.
There are many favourite pantos and whilst two other theatre groups on the Coast will be performing Snow White and Sleeping Beauty later on, we’re getting in first with Cinderella.
The original script and lyrics for this beautiful pantomime were written and directed by Gordon Leeder, with music by Bryan McVay, and musical direction by Norma Fox back in 1987 and has not been performed since. Now, 23 years later, Coolum Theatre Players is delighted to be presenting this well loved pantomime with Norma Fox as Director. Gordon still has the original resplendent coach and the marvellous donkey, as well as all the sceneries from the fireplace to the ballroom which he designed and built!
And in true panto style the Ugly Sisters are played by a couple of straight guys and Prince Charming by an ever-so charming female. There is some extremely quirky dialogue and the repertoire between the Ugly Sisters (gloriously named Brunhilda and Griselda) is hysterical!
This show’s chock-a-block with fun, music and chorus, fairytale costumes and of course audience interaction especially between Buttons, the Baron’s valet. Cinderella will captivate and charm the young, and the young at heart and is suitable for ages 3 years and up.
There will be 10 performances at Coolum Civic Centre, Park Street, in November:

Cinderella will leave the audience reluctant to go home and wishing in vain for more.
