Ok, this one’s for all the rock n roll rebels out there! Yes, you, the baby boomers who just loved Cliff Richard and The Shadows during the 60s. Coolum Theatre Players are reliving the era, the music, the décor, the finger food and fashions for the Australian Premiere of “The Young Ones” - here in Coolum in May.
Based on the 1961 motion picture starring Cliff Richard and The Shadows, this musical is gonna be a great family show, especially under the direction of Helen Rimanic. It’s a story about a group of teenagers fighting to save their local youth club from imminent demolition at the hands of a property tycoon, Hamilton Black. They decide to raise money and awareness of their plight by putting on a variety show, promising that a mystery singer will top the bill. Some of those great musical numbers feature “Do You Wanna Dance”, “Lessons in Love”, “Livin Doll” and of course “The Young Ones”.
The young cast are having a great time during rehearsals learning the songs, some of which they’re too young to have heard of! The music, under musical director Vivienne Ellis and choreography by Mandy Masterson, will contribute to the WOW factor!
The gala opening night on Friday 13thMay will be a very different occasion and more importantly will make a difference to Bloomhill Cancer Help. The evening’s proceeds will be donated to their Target 300 campaign, an ambitious plan for them to raise $300,000 for the construction of an extension to their current facilities at Buderim. The $40 pp ticket cost includes supper, refreshments, and lucky door prizes too.
The Coolum Theatre Players season then continues through to Saturday 28thMay, with 8 performances in total. For all the details, times and ticket prices, phone 5446 2500 or call in to see North Shore Realty at Coolum.
So many of us have been touched by the emotional and practical support Bloomhill supplies after cancer diagnoses.
Please help us support them on this occasion. Tickets will sell fast, so get in early to secure your booking.
