So they say - laughter is the best medicine. And in this economic climate of political uncertainties, it’s good to take time out to have a laugh, via live theatre. Coolum Theatre Players are serving up “Comedies on a Platter” – a triple treat of One Act Plays in August. Now you might not have heard of the plays - “Ladders”, “Morning Tea with the Minister” and “Going Home” but they’ve all been written and directed by well knowns on the live theatre circuit here on the Sunshine Coast. So I am sure you’ll thoroughly enjoy the light hearted entertainment.
To put you in the picture, here’s a brief scenario on each of the plays:
“Ladders” - George is dead. He’s eaten too many spicy Mexican nuts and lived a couch potato life. He’s “up there” with the souls who must decide his destiny. This is a funny and artistic piece of theatre.
“Morning Tea with the Minister” is a farcical send up. While entertaining the new and highly respected church minister with a pleasant morning tea, Gloria drops the bombshell which she hopes will finally end her days as the local town spinster. However, the “scones” are not entirely what they purport to be!
“Going Home” - Beryl is an eccentric with dementia who lives alone on a sheep and cattle station in Queensland. Her daughter and grandson are pressuring her into going into a retirement home. A visitor to the family property causes a hilarious reaction of mayhem and confusion.
All this plus BYO nibbles and drinks, in cabaret style seating (tables of 8) priced at $15 for members, $18 concession, $20 adult and Under 10’s free, it’s an inexpensive night (or afternoon) out. There are 5 shows: Friday 6th, Saturday 7th, Sunday 8th, Friday 13thand Saturday 14th August. Bookings are through North Shore Realty Coolum or phone 5446 2500 for further details.
