PLAYING UP!

PLAYING UP!

Being the frustrated actress that I’ve been for most of my life, I jumped at the opportunity to play alongside Coast actress and director Jennifer Rousset in a two-hander drama called LAST POST (written by Jean McConnell).  I play Felicity Grant-Poole, the bereaved wife of a recently deceased Army Colonel who learns of his possible indiscretion, mmmm,  and then Mary O’Riley turns up on the doorstep!  Jennifer’s love of theatre began in London at the age of 5 and subsequently she has performed in large musicals in a professional theatre in London before arriving here with her family seven years ago. She has directed, choreographed and appeared in various pantomimes, dramas, comedies and musicals since.

However, there’s not ONE but FOUR plays in our One Act Play series, totalling around 110 minutes of on stage drama:

Aug 26, 27, Sept 2 & 3 at 7.30pm  Matinee: Aug 28 at 2pm

SISTERS IN PARIS, is written and directed by Frank Wilkie.  Three sisters plan a dream trip to Paris but expectations are shattered.  Frank has appeared in 26 Coast productions and won numerous awards for acting and playwriting.  His first full-length play Newsroom was performed for the first time at the Adelaide Fringe Festival in 2009. In June this year, he also won theNational One-Act Play festival Best Actor Award as Derek in Nothing.

NAMBOUR BEACH, written and directed by Bruce Olive is set in the year 2080 in the seaside city of Nambour.  Yes, that’s climate change for you!  Bruce has been involved with all aspects of theatre since moving to the Sunshine coast eleven years ago.  He won Best Play in the 2010 National One Act Playwriting Competition with the very chilling, God Willing, and was a finalist again in 2011 with The Knock on The Door, for which he won the Nancy Cato Audience Choice Award.

THE ROLE OF DELLA, is written by John Wooten and directed by Kathryn Rose.  Set in a casting agency this 10 minuter gives new meaning to the term “stealing a scene”.  Kath made her debut role as director with this play for a one-off performance at Coolum Theatre Players annual fundraiser in February and is excited at the opportunity to reunite the cast for this series of performances.
