Summer is here!

Summer is here!

Check out whats happening down the beach this summer!

The water temps just keep rising with the number of swimmers, surfers and the general beach population as things start to heat up around this beautiful coastline.

Coolum and many of the coast beaches are now patrolled on weekends and public holidays by the members of their local Surf Life Saving Club. These lifesavers are trained volunteers who give up their time to help make the beaches safer, so feel free to go up and say G’ day or maybe even say, thank you for their time on the beach. On Sunday mornings Coolum S.L.S.C has the nippers kicking off from 0830 and you will see the kids learning and improving their water skills while in a friendly and safe environment.

Lifeguards employed by the SCRC (sunshine coast regional council) will continue to work across the coast beaches throughout the summer with extra lifeguards being put on to the busier beaches and extra locations added to the lifeguard service. Lifeguards on our coast are exceptional watermen. If you have any questions about the beach and the ocean just go and ask as they will be happy to pass their knowledge onto you.

Coolum Boardriders Club are very busy at the moment with a lot of the juniors travelling around for various competitions, through all should be back by the end of October for the 2010 Yaroomba classic, the classic is a major local event for local surfers and has been running for over 20 years with all surfers wanting to have their names etched onto the trophies, Event is run on Yaroomba beach. Coolum Boardriders club will also try to run the next monthly club competition on the 7th of  November, you will see the club tent up in Tickle park and see the surfers competing in the coloured shirts out in the water and for those how don’t know the first one back to the beach is not the winner. If you or someone you know would like to meet more surfers or want some competition get down for a fun day at the beach.

Keen surfers will be happy the sun is up earlier and the water is warming up, though not that happy the onshore winds will get up and chop out the surf by mid mornings. It will be a matter of getting up early for the lighter winds and better conditions. Summer time usually means weak, fat onshore waves, perfect conditions for a fish or fun shaped boards to really get some enjoyment out of the surf session. Plenty of boards available for hire in Coolum, so hopefully you will be having fun in the surf this summer.

The “Golden Days” festival is on Saturday 6th Nov.

Derek Hynd and rising local super star Julian Wilson have joined forces to raise money for breast cancer. Kicking off with the “Julian’s Family Fun Day”.

Grommets come on down for a day to remember, Derek and Julian will be running different forms of competition on the day based on style, expression and pure fun in the water!! With the “No losers here” approach it’s a great day for family’s to come down get in the water and have some fun.
