Don’t get caught climbing your bottle this Christmas
It's that time of the year again, early daylight, strong mid summer morning breezes and Christmas parties are upon us, its so easy to have an all summer long drink. You can reduce the impact of Christmas parties by taking some of my special Santa hints...
Tips to survive the festive season
Pt Perry to Pt Arkwright
This is an interesting walk with a mixture of large boulders, beaches and rolling bays to gaze at!
Don’t forget to grab your snorkels just in case you want to get up close to some of the interesting marine life in the area, the bays offer some protection for snorkelling depending on the wind and tide. If you feeling challenged walk up the stairs from each of the bays and keep a look out for the pair of osprey that live along the cliff at Pt Perry riding the thermal looking for prey.

Mt Coolum
A walk up Mt Coolum during the early hours of the morning is also another way to start the day, don’t worry about walking to the summit just walk up to the rocks before it veers to the left the view from there is spectacular and there is also a beautiful breeze to keep you cool and don’t forget a cuppa and water.

Stumers Creek
If you get down to Stumers creek with the kids and dogs at the turn of the tide you will be surprised how much fun the family can have catching little waves in and out of the channel and its very safe for toddlers

Avoid Christmas parties
I think getting on a role can be dangerous, “getting the taste for it” can be very addictive and progressive and before you know it you look 3 months pregnant, it seems the only way you will feel good about yourself is climbing back into the bottle again. Well don’t because that’s not recommended, bite down and get it together there always more parties to go to in the future! Don’t feel obligated to follow the flocks, stand you ground have less, go home early it’s always your choice
Food and Booze
When eating always keep to fresh whole foods all the time. If this means mainly eating Turkey, Chicken and Smoked Salmon for Christmas Lunch then that’s great. This leaves just room for us to taste and enjoy all the sweet goodies just so long as you don’t over indulge you will be fine. I am hoping you will be way to full of protein based foods to fit much more in!
When drinking alcoholic beverages it’s probably a good idea to navigate away from any sugary alcoholic based drinks and stick to things like White and Red wine which are packed with anti-oxidants and will help you digest the festive feast. Too much beer is also a common pitfall so steer clear and it does pack the calories and leaving you feeling bloated
Exercise
For those who still like to train during the festive season follow your usual routine. You can party and train, no rules here! Maybe an incentive to train hard, deplete your body of carbohydrates and then replenish with loads of food again. This could be a good opportunity to start something new, any new activity will certainly challenge the body and burn the extra calories.
Enjoy!
It is the festive season so do your best to keep some form of routine but most of all don’t stress to much about it, have fun enjoy your family and friends and if you consider moderation as you starting point the rest will take of itself.
Just remember sleep as much as you can, eat fresh foods, keep clear of sweet alcoholic beverages and don’t think about work or next year enjoy for now and stay safe.
Stay strong, Stay healthy - I'll be asking you what your New Years resolutions are next month!

Tony
Our family visits Coolum a couple of times every year and we love it. It’s one of the most beautiful places we’ve been to. Why not explore it by Mountain Bike? You’d be surprised at some of the fun places you can ride to at/from Coolum. (If you want some ideas, please let me know).
Regular exercise habits need a “hook” to get you in. Seeing a lovely place like Coolum while riding a mountain bike is all the “hook” that I need
