Coolum Coast Care volunteers monitor & caretake the Coolum Coastline. We also run corporate days & welcome volunteers on holiday.
What we do The following are our current regular projects. We are always in need of members and volunteers for a variety of projects
Volunteers meet at the end of Yinneburra Street (off Yeranya Road) in Yaroomba Thursdays at 8.30 am. We provide weed bags and tools (or bring your own favourite tools) to remove invasive weeds.
A friendly and diverse group, Thursday mornings (8.30 – 11.30) we meet at the picnic shelter by the beach access in Lions Park (look for the banner over the picnic table) Coo-ee if you can’t see us!
Mondays 8.30am meet at the Stumers Creek Road end which begins in the Lions Park and is approximately 500 metres.
Members of Coolum District Coast Care have been trained to record data on stranded turtles (both dead and alive) that wash up on our local beaches. During nesting season November to March, we are also relocating eggs, meshing nests and monitoring the nests.
The beautiful Richmond Birdwing Butterfly is a Coolum Native but the caterpillars only food plant called the Pararistolochia or Butterfly Vine is fast disappearing. Please plant the vine (available at the Native Nursery) and let us know the location so that we have a corridor for butterfly reproduction.
